Marcelina Wellmer works with the media of video, installation and photography and uses these forms of expression to explore complex issues in our modern society. In her works, she crosses the boundaries between analog and digital events and examines the connection and interaction between humans and technology. In doing so, she poses the question of the extent to which technological dependence shapes and changes our lives and our environment. The influence of humans on the environment – for example through technological interventions and the often desolate design of urban spaces and landscapes – is a central aspect for Wellmer. Her works address the often contradictory relationship between progress and loss, between beauty and the destruction that this progress can bring with it. Wellmer’s works not only offer space for critical reflection, but also challenge the viewer to question their own attitudes towards technology and its influence on our environment and the future.
